Topic Info:
- How do I travel from/to Kelly (Lackland) Passenger Terminal by local bus? (Courtesy of Wanda Seals/November 2013)
- There are two VIA bus systembuses that transit Port San Antonio – where the terminal is located. These are routes #62 (KIRK) and #524 (GENERAL McMULLEN FREQUENT). Details of San Antonio’s VIA bus system is found at http://viainfo.net/ or call VIA at 210-362-2020 and they will provide you the correct bus/transfer info you need.
- #62 goes from Port San Antonio to Downtown San Antonio. The nearest #62 bus stop from the terminal is about .5 miles from the terminal just past the intersection of Industrial Park and Gen Hudnell.
- #524 goes to Crossroads Park & Ride, Balcones Heights, Las Palmas Shopping Center, Port San Antonio, Southwest General Hospital, and Palo Alto College. If using #524, you can transfer to # 550/551 (THE LOOPER SKIP – NORTH CW – clockwise) which goes to the San Antonio International Airport. The nearest #524 bus stop is about .8 miles from the terminal at Gen Hudnell and Foulois.
- Cost for VIA is $1.20 and transfers are $0.15 (as of Dec 13) Exact change is required. Funds are put in machine and change is not given if you must pay more than required. There is an “E-Card” system that frequent riders use, but infrequent riders may continue to use exact payment option.
- ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION FROM PASSENGER TERMINAL
The Passenger Terminal is on PORT SAN ANTONIO and is essentially an “open base” with no entry points/gates. Therefore there is no problem for taxis or family/friends without military ID cards to come to the terminal to pick you up. Per telephone call to Yellow Cab/222-2222 (not necessarily recommended - just called to get rates) rates from the terminal to downtown Greyhound Bus Station would be $18-20 for 1-6 persons and to the San Antonio International Airport would be $35-38 for 1-6 persons ( let them know not only how many people but how much luggage so they can send an appropriate vehicle). THERE IS NO BASE SHUTTLE that runs from the Passenger Terminal on Port San Antonio to Lackland Air Force Base and IT IS NOT WALKABLE!
