- Billeting (Hickam Side): Gateway Inn Lodging office approx 1/3 mile from terminal. It is 2nd stop on bus route on it's way from terminal to Waikiki. Series 1100 billets are just around left rear of office and easily walkable. These buildings are an 18 min walk with luggage to terminal. Series 900 billets are a solid mile from the office down by officer's club, and likewise the same to the terminal. Walking not suggested. Bus route does not go near these buildings.

- Off-Base Shuttle: As of Jan 13 the free NEX Pearl blue bus goes to Hickam....stops at the terminal at quarter past the hour and then goes to the HIK exchange and then on over to Pearl. Starts at 1000 and runs until 2130 and supposedly 7-days per week. Here's a map of the NEX Shuttle ( a complimentary service provided by Navy Exchange Hawaii.)

- How do I travel between Hickam AFB and the Hale Koa? (Current as of Jan 10)
- Take “The Bus” Route 19 Bus (bus stop is towards the right as you exit the PAX terminal) to the Hilton Hawaiian Village (adjacent to Hale Koa, ~75 yds). Fares are per trip (one transfer per paid fare is good for 2 hours) and EXACT CHANGE is required. Since EXACT CHANGE is required check the latest "The Bus" Fare Page for current fares and discounts (e.g. Medicare card holders) before you travel. The bus runs about every 30-40 minutes. Technically speaking no baggage is permitted that cannot be stowed under a seat or held on your lap, but the drivers tend to be somewhat tolerant of larger cases especially in off hours. The last seat before the rear exit on the bus's own right side (the left as you walk down the aisle) has a somewhat larger space behind it where bags can be stowed. If you have a choice, don't select a sideways facing seat near the front because occupants of them are often required to get up and move somewhere along the way when a person in a wheelchair wants to board, as those are where the wheelchair straps are located. It's a fairly long ride to Waikiki so just sit back and enjoy!
- How do I travel between Hickam AFB and Kanehoe Marine Corps Base using “The Bus?” (Take Routes 19, 56, and 70: less than 2 hours)
- Follow the instructions above as if you are going to the Hale Koa Pay except get a transfer when you board the route 19 bus, and tell the Route 19 bus driver that you want to catch the Route 56 bus to go to the Marine Corps Base so the bus driver will tell you when to get off the Route 19 bus (at Alakea & Hotel, which is the transfer point for the Windward buses). Do not go to Waikiki.
- Then, use your free transfer and transfer to the Route 56 bus (Kailua - Kanehoe) to go Windward to the Marine Corps Base (about 30 minutes). Tell the bus driver that you want to get to the Marine Corps Base at Kanehoe so that he will tell you when to get off the bus (often at the Aikahi Park Shopping Center).
- Then, pay a new fare and transfer to the Route 70 bus (Maunawili via MCBH) to get to the Marine Corps Base Hawai'i at Kanehoe (KMCBH) (less than 10 minutes).
- How do I travel between Hale Koa and Pearl Harbor? (current as of Mar 08)
- From the bus stop across the street from Hale Koa (in front of the parking garage) take the #19 or the #20 or the #42 bus, and when you pay ask for a transfer--if you do not have a bus pass.
- Get off the bus on Nimitz Highway at Paiea Street, or any of the other couple of stops on Nimitz just before the airport. (A signal to get off at the next stop is seeing a big Harley-Davidson dealership on the right.)
- Wait for the #9 bus, use your transfer to 'pay' when you board, and take the bus to the Navy Exchange/Commissary complex. (Ask the driver to tell you when the stop comes up--it's actually not easy to see the NEX from the road, and you'll have to walk downhill along a narrow path to the parking area and stores.)
- If possible, pick up a schedule for the #9 route when you are on that bus, because it will show you the routing and the times that it runs.
- On the way back, take the #9 again (getting a transfer if you don't have a pass), this time from a bus stop just up on the road from the end of the NEX where they install car radios. (You will have walked in a big loop around the Commissary, NEX, and incidental shops, but you will not be all the way back to where you got off.) There's a cement bench at the stop for your comfort while waiting. Get off the #9 just after it passes the airport entrance road (ask the driver for help if you need it to spot the stop), and transfer to the 19, 20 or 42--all headed for Waikiki. Get off at the combined Hale Koa/Hilton Hawaiian Village stop.
- IF YOUR INTENTION IS TO ACTUALLY GO ON BOARD PEARL, TAKE THE #9 TO THE MAIN GATE (WELL BEYOND THE NEX STOP). YOU'LL HAVE TO WALK IN FROM THERE unless you are on one of the few early morning or late afternoon runs that loop around to some of the employment centers on base. These runs are noted on the printed schedule.
- Return instructions remain the same--#9 to just past the airport on Nimitz Highway, then transfer to any of the Waikiki-bound buses.
- (If you want to go to HICKAM, the #19 bus from Waikiki (as above) does go on base [only ID card holders allowed] and passes near the BX with the commissary a few blocks behind. The bus ends up at the Hickam terminal, and then restarts its return route from there at the scheduled time.)
- How do I travel from Hickam Air Terminal to the Navy Exchange at Pearl Harbor? (As of June 2011)
- Take Route 19 from terminal ($2.50 or $1.00 for seniors, request a transfer ticket) outside the south gate on Elliott street, pull the stop as it turns southward on Nimitz Blvd. Get off the next stop. Walk across to the other side of Nimitz Blvd. Walk (with extreme caution) northward to the next bus stop. Here take Route 9 to the Navy Exchange. Get off at the bus in front of the Navy Federal Credit Union.
