FAQ

My dog can “hold it” while I’m at work, why would he/she need a mid-day walk?
While walks certainly are an opportunity for your dog to relieve him or herself between morning and evening potty breaks, that is only a fraction of the experience. Just like us, our canine counterparts need a daily dose of exercise to keep the heart healthy and the mind occupied. The interaction with a dog walker as well as the stimulation of the walk itself serves as a great distraction for your dog and breaks up the monotony of the day. For those of us with young or active dogs, this is also a great way to get out some of that energy before you return home. Your evenings together will be easier and more relaxed as Spot won’t be begging you to make up for 8 hours of missed playtime!

Will my dog be kept on-leash during the walk?
Yes. I keep all dogs on-leash during our walks. Dogs, and the outside world, can be unpredictable. The sights, sounds and smells of squirrels, children, emergency vehicles, and even other dogs can affect your dog in a variety of ways. Therefore, each dog has his or her own personal walk with the collar or harness and leash provided by the client. This allows the walker to focus all her attention on the dog to ensure his or her safety throughout the walk.

Portland is known for its rain. Will my house be muddy after my dog’s walks?
No. I want you and your dog to enjoy this service even in our lovely grey winters. If a client is concerned about their dog bringing too much of the outside in, I ask that they provide a “dog towel” near the entryway. I will do my best to wipe your dog’s paws and make sure he or she is clean and dry before re-entering the house.
Additionally, if you wish your dog to don a sweater or raincoat during inclement weather, please let me know and leave the article of clothing with the lead.

Will you pick up after my dog?
Yes! I will always respect your and your neighbors’ lawns. If you do not have doggy waste bags of your own, I will provide them.

Do you offer dog training?
No. However, I possess a basic understanding of dog behavior and use positive training methods to help reinforce what your dog already knows. As with my own dog, I expect a certain level of “manners” and am always willing to help you work on smaller “issues” such as pulling or jumping up while your dog is in my care.

My flight home is delayed and I won’t make it back for another day, what will happen with my dog?
In the event of a last-minute change in your plans, I ask that you contact me as soon as possible. Most likely, I will be able to take your dog an extra night. In the unlikely event that I cannot, I will do my best to find a solution. Your dog’s well-being is of utmost importance to me and I will work with you to make sure he or she is taken care of while you are away.

My dog doesn’t do well with other dogs, is this a problem?
I am a dog owner myself and enjoy allowing my dog and our guests to interact and play together. If your dog is not dog friendly, I will work with individual clients on a case by case basis to come up with a solution.

My dog is not spayed/neutered? Can they be boarded?
Please contact me so we can discuss your specific situation.

I need a service that is not outlined on your website, what should I do?
If you do not see a specific service to suit your needs, please inquire and I will do my best to oblige!
